Functional Electrical Stimulation in Stroke Recovery

This 2-part workshop for OTs, PTs, OTAs, PTAs, and RAs will be presented by Dr Kristin Musselman, PhD, PT, Scientist with the Neural Engineering and Therapeutics Team and the Mobility Team at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, Lyndhurst Centre.
Details are:
Part 1: Thursday, April 4 from 12-1:30 pm - Theoretical Overview (virtual over Zoom) MUST ATTEND BOTH Part 1 and Part 2.
Part 2: Saturday, April 13 from 9-3:30 pm or Sunday, April 14 from 9-3:30 – Hands-on practical session, Queensway Carleton Hospital TKA Gym, 3045 Baseline Rd, Ottawa (in person) MUST ATTEND BOTH Part 1 and Part 2
Cost: $40 pp
Requirements:
- Must provide stroke care within the Champlain Region
- FES device – participants are encouraged to bring the device that they use in their workplace.
- Participants must attend both sessions.
After completing this training, participants will understand:
- The basics of electrical stimulation including electrical currents, neurophysiological response, precautions, contraindications, stimulation parameters, electrode placement, application and manipulating parameters
- FES applications and evidence for spasticity, hemiplegic shoulder, scapular stabilization, reach, power grasp, dropped foot, standing, sit to stand.
